When I was younger, I loved to read much more than my baby sister. And when my sister did pick out books from the library, our tastes were a bit different. So one day, while walking through her room to get to mine, I noticed a paperback book on her nightstand. I figured I’d read the back and see if it was something that interested me.
The summary babbled on about an orphan boy and the day he discovered he was a wizard and some school called Hogwarts that he was going to attend. After reading the back, I flipped to the front to check out the cover. (Yes, I’m ashamed to admit that I do indeed judge books by their covers.) The front of the book did not grab my attention immediately, and the book was thrown back on my sister’s bed without another thought.
That’s right, I Jessica Gibbons, one of the biggest Potterheads in the world tossed aside Harry Potter like it was yesterday’s garbage. I am still ashamed to this day of my actions. It was not one of my shiniest moments, but I think that it had to happen. Because the day I picked Harry back up and gave him another chance, began one of the greatest adventures and obsessions of my life.

Hahaha I love the voice in this slice as you admit this deep dark secret of yours- that you once judged Harry Potter by the cover…throwing him aside as if yesterday’s garbage. So glad you gave him a second chance 🙂
How many other books have we mistakenly judged by their covers? Now you have me wondering…

Ha! This is great. I only started reading it because everyone wouldn’t stop talking about it. Had to see the what all the buzz was about. So so so so so glad I did!
I love this! I too, almost didn’t pick up the book and get caught up in Harry Potter Mania! So glad I did though!!!! Aren’t you glad that you gave poor Harry another chance?!?!?!?!

I discovered Harry solely via “The Sorcerer’s Stone” film and I went in just shy of actual kicking and screaming at why would I want to see a children’s film for heaven’s sake at a friend’s insistence that I would love it. I picked up the book from the library the next day, finished it, then purchased all the books in the series that existed at that point and never looked back, Yes, that friend reminds me of it regularly. Your post is now the third reference to Harry Potter I’ve encountered in the past few hours. I am thinking maybe it’s about time I return to the word of Hogwarts for a spell or two,
